At Sterling, we are a major advocate of promoting from within our company. It not only boosts morale, but it shows our commitment to our employees’ growth. Check out some feedback from two of our property managers – Rachel Ferrill and Esther Ochoa – and their perspective on company culture and growth at Sterling.
Defining a Rewarding Company Culture
A positive and reenforcing company culture can go a long way. By sharing clear company values and providing opportunity for career progression, Sterling has been able to create a cohesive environment where employees are motivated to learn and grow.
Rachel: The best aspect of working for Sterling Property Management is the positive company culture. Your efforts are acknowledged, your input is valued, and there is a level of support and feedback from corporate that reaches directly to the assets and thus reaches their employees. This results not only in a positive work environment but also the ability to provide the quality results needed to thrive as a company.
Esther: I love working for Sterling because everyone shares the same vision and dedication to helping each individual grow within the company.
The Importance of Investing in Quality Employees
Organizations that promote from within can identify the characteristics, qualifications, and skills it wants in its leadership team. It not only cuts down on recruiting costs, but it adds to a synergistic work environment. When employees see that hard work pays off, it boosts work ethic and morale. Sterling’s commitment to promoting from within has benefited both the company and the career progression of our employees.
Rachel: I firmly believe the greatest reason for my professional growth comes from the time that Sterling has dedicated to me as an individual. Prior to joining Sterling, I experienced what lack of collaboration and leadership can do to morale on a team. My experience inspired me to learn everything I could to be the leader that properties and employees needed. Sterling hired me as an Assistant Manager, and I started to really appreciate that this is not your typical property management company. They provide cross training in all management aspects, hold weekly progress meetings, and even sent me to other assets/let me sit in on other calls to learn as much as possible from other employees. It is easy to have a willingness to learn but it is hard to find individuals and managers with the time and willingness to teach.
Esther: Sterling has helped me grow by helping me become more accountable, consistent, and professional. They have always provided excellent support, proper resources, and encouragement to grow within my professional setting.
Sterling’s constructive work environment starts with the leaders at the top. “The most rewarding part of what I do, by far, is training and mentoring team members such as Rachel and Esther that have so much talent and drive to succeed and watching them grow and evolve throughout the years in their various roles,” says Lea Ann Scofield, Sterling’s Senior Vice President of Operations. Knowing that there’s a strong, professional collaboration between ownership and management creates a strong foundation for properties and individuals to succeed.
